Wrong Turn

Two Sundays ago, during the usual family outing day, my uncle drove us to Kepong to have dinner. Kepong was our favourite place for scrumptuous dining+considerably cheap, and also because Uncle Kwong knows like, every turn in every corner, which to take and which not to take. We ended up in these shop houses that is somewhere in the middle of the housing areas. I don't know the name of the street, but the place is sure recognisable (even with my short term memory).
Somewhere there, my dad bumped into his very old and used to be a very close friend. Apparently, we went to look for him a few months back but was in sheer disappointed when he shifted. Thought we'll never see him again til that moment, and the silly thing was he just shifted to the other side of the row. Haha. How funny. He sells Bak Kut Teh, and seriously, my taste buds were adamant to try it, though my heart told to give it a shot, and with a little push, i ordered Bak Kut Teh. That was my first in years!!! I think since Form 2!!! So that makes it 7 years!!!! Now ain't that pretty long???!!!??? 'Coz there was this incident waaay back in time where my family ate that and ended up vommiting for no reason. So we summed up that Bak Kut Teh is an extreme NO NO. Til that moment. Anyways, its good to taste such nice "FATTENING" food again.
Dad told me that this Bak Kut Teh Uncle was the one who contributed into making 1km of the high road to Genting Highlands. And I was like, "huh?" What dad meant was he has lost his fortune in the reigning and the only licensed casino in our country, the Genting Highlands Casino. An extreme gambler, he has put much of his assets into bet, watching them loose and slowly slip off his hands bit by bit. Mom says he used to be loaded, back then when sis and I were just small little angels (now devils edy..haha) and he had many rides. It's sad for Uncle, because of gambling, he threw his whole fortune to the devil-machines of the ringing casino and never got it back. And now, a Bak Kut Teh man.
Its sympathetic to see how a person who was once owned massive paper money is now a mere food seller. How life takes its turn is just so unpredictable, and because of one wrong turn, you watch your whole life fall right in front of you. Hrm...That's why daddy and mummy often remind us never to gamble. Because it was not a good sport. It never was and will never be. Yes, small wins are satisfying, but not at the expense of your fortune, right??? And the feeling is temporal, so is it really worth it to permanently loose the priceless stuffs over something that is perishable???
Hrm...Its a good thing that he is a grandfather now, and all his children are doing quite well. Indeed, there is no point crying over spilt milk, but the sympathy for the Bak Kut Teh Uncle is there, and he looked like a good man. Somehow, I wished things would have been better for him. But what's done is done. What's past is past. Just make is a lesson to be learnt, and let bygones be bygones... and let him be a living example to all...to think before you act.. for every ection may bring dire consequences...
